Concluding the DIGI-GASE Project on Digital Education Competencies in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts

Dear DIGI-GASE Followers,

We have successfully concluded the DIGI-GASE “Development of Digital Education Competencies of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Departments in Higher Education Institutions” Project which is supported by the Turkish National Agency. The project is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan EREN, and included Prof. Dr. Ceyhun Çağlar KILINÇ and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah TARINÇ as researchers at Akdeniz University Manavgat Tourism Faculty.

Our international partners; “EACE” European Academy of Certified Education from Germany, Institut Lyfe from France, and “Dlearn” European Digital Learning Network and “UNISG” The University of Gastronomic Sciences from Italy, have significantly contributed to the successful completion of DIGI-GASE.

The success we have achieved by working collaboratively with our partners throughout the project duration to realize the goals we set at the beginning of the project fills us with pride. The outcomes of our project will serve as a valuable resource for esteemed academic staff in EU countries and other nations; therefore, we hope it will have a positive impact on all stakeholders and those wishing to utilize our project outputs.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported us throughout the project, followed our social media accounts and eagerly awaited news on our website. Special thanks to the participants who provided accurate answers and feedback during the interviews conducted during the development process of DIGI-GASE. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the professors and experts in their fields who contributed to our project with their valuable insights.

The successful completion of our project marks a milestone as one of the pioneering initiatives in distance education for gastronomy and culinary arts at the EU level. This accomplishment fills us with hope for future projects. The expertise of our team, consisting of representatives from prominent gastronomy education institutions in the EU, has undeniably positively influenced the success of our project. We have full confidence that our partners will continue to achieve similar success in their future projects.

MULTIPLIER EVENTS OF THE DIGI-GASE PROJECT IN TURKEY

A Multipler Event was organized in Turkey on 20.10.2023 for the dissemination of our DIGI-GASE project. Leading by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan EREN and Prof. Dr. Ceyhun Çağlar KILINÇ, visits were organized to Selçuk University and Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya, Turkey.

In this visit, a meeting was held with the academic staff. During the meeting, they were informed about the European Union Erasmus projects and DIGI-GASE. The interesting approach and hospitality of the academic staff was highly valued.

During the visits to Selçuk and Necmettin Erbakan Universities, Assoc. Prof. Ramazan Eren and Prof. Ceyhun Çaplar KILIÇ were welcomed by academicians who also teach gastronomy and culinary arts. Prof. Dr. Şafak ÜNÜVAR stated that our DIGI-GASE project is important and that he will follow our project outputs with interest.

TRANSNATIONAL PROJECT MEETING OF DIGI-GASE PROJECT IN BERLIN

The Transnational Project meeting within the scope of our project was hosted by EACE, our partner from Germany, 25-26 October 2023. DIGI-GASE “Development of Digital Education Competencies of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Departments in Higher Education Institutions” project, coordinated by Akdeniz University, is gradually coming to an end. Our innovative and technology-oriented path that we set out on has been made the most successful model so far. Our partners who came together in Berlin made the final arrangements on the project.

The helpful guidebook is now ready to come to your aid, but there is more. At the same time, all of our project partners, with their own teams, have produced videos to support our helpful guidebook. The supporting videos convey the contents of our booklet in more detail and in a more imaginable way. Based on previous experiences, it is quite possible to say that our DIGI-GASE “Development of Digital Education Competencies of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Departments in Higher Education Institutions” project is trying to provide maximum benefit.

The transnational project meeting in Berlin focused on videos. The videos recorded by Akdeniz University as an example were reviewed and notes were taken for necessary arrangements.

At the meeting, the final checks of our project outputs, which we call IO1 and IO2, were carried out and the edits were reviewed. Ideas were discussed for the final version of the booklet.

DIGI-GASE PROJECT TRAINING ACTIVITY IN ITALY

The training activity within the scope of the project titled “DIGI GASE – Development of Digital Education Competencies of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Departments in Higher Education Institutions” coordinated by Akdeniz University was hosted by the Digital Learning Network ETS-Dlearn in Milan on 29-31 May 2023.

Akdeniz University, European Academy Certified Education, University of Gastronomic Sciences and Institute Paul Bocuse participated in the training activity  (LTTA).

Activities of the DIGI-GASE project are progressing rapidly. The final details of the guidebook to be prepared for the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department have been finalized and during the training activity, discussions were held on the areas that need further development.

Furthermore, supporting training videos for the guide are emphasized. Each institution will contribute to the preparation of training videos that will clarify the guidelines and enhance the increased comprehension of specific competencies for academic staff and trainers.

In order to ensure the integrity of the training videos, it was decided to use the designs prepared by the Digital Learning Network ETS-Dlearn team.

TRANSNATIONAL PROJECT MEETING OF DIGI-GASE PROJECT IN FRANCE

The international meeting of the “Development of Digital Education Competencies of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Departments in Higher Education Institutions” (DIGI-GASE) project, supported by the Turkish National Agency, in which Akdeniz University Manavgat Faculty of Tourism was the coordinator, was held in Lyon, France between November 25-29, 2022, hosted by the Paul Bocuse Institute.

“During the last meeting of the project “Development of Digital Education Competencies of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Departments in Higher Education Institutions” in 2022, the researches conducted in 2021 and 2022 were examined, the project outputs obtained were criticized and finalized. The last year of the project, 2023, was dedicated to compiling and organizing the research into three separate booklets and preparing supporting videos.

Assoc. Prof. Ramazan Eren, the coordinator of the DIGI-GASE project, mentioned that the partners are a team that supports each other and that the meetings they usually have are intense in terms of exchanging ideas. He also emphasized that the exchange of ideas between each other is the most effective point in the progress of the project in terms of creating new ideas.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Luisa Torri from the University of Gastronomic Sciences, one of the project partners, informed the partners about the content of the videos to be prepared and Tuncay Özer, a member of E.A.C.E, shared his presentation on “Digital Tools” with the partners.

At the end of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Ramazan Eren informed the partners about the content of the next training activity to be held in Italy. Detailed information about the DIGI-GASE project can be found on the website https://www.digigase.com and social media accounts.

TRANSNATIONAL PROJECT MEETING OF DIGI-GASE PROJECT IN ANTALYA

The TPM of the “DIGI GASE – Development of Digital Education Competencies of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Departments in Higher Education Institutions” project which is coordinated by Akdeniz University, was held in Antalya between 26-27 July 2022. Partners of the project Universita di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenzo, European Academy Certified Education, European Digital Learning Network, and Instıtut Paul Bocuse attended the project meeting.

The project, which is supported within the framework of the Erasmus+ Program, aims to prepare a guide for the effective implementation of education in the digital environment for academicians. Transnational project meeting is a routine activity of the process. During the meeting the statistics and institutional structure of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department in Turkey were examined and presented to the participants by the coordinator Associate Professor Ramazan EREN. In addition, the activities to be carried out in the future periods of the project are planned.

TRAINING ACTIVITY OF DIGI GASE PROJECT HELD IN ITALY

The Training course within the scope of the “DIGI GASE – Development of Digital Education Competencies of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Departments in Higher Education Institutions” project which is coordinated by Akdeniz University was held at the Universita di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenzo. University of Gastronomy Sciences)

Akdeniz University, European Academy Certified Education, European Digital Learning Network, and Institut Paul Bocuse institutions participated in the “Gastronomy Education in EU and Future Directions” training activity.

Taking part in the project execution team, Dr. Lect. Abdullah TARINÇ, a member of the DIGI-GASE Project, stated that the DIGI-GASE Project aims to prepare a guide for universities and lecturers on what to focus on in distance education, unlike face-to-face-education-in gastronomy and culinary arts departments for all European countries.
